Charter & Information Form

The Echuca Farmers & Makers Market is an incorporated entity and non-profit body that works for the benefit of its members. The Market is affiliated and a member of the Victorian Farmers Market Association.

CHARTER:

· The focus of the market is to provide the community with a regular opportunity to purchase direct from local small businesses and producers, to raise awareness about food origins and healthy eating and to provide a market place for farmers and producers to sell their goods and to bring tourists to the area.

· All products for sale must be farmed, grown, produced or made by the stall holder

· Regionality – Produce that is from the North Central Victorian and Lower Murray NSW region will be included and that will add value to the market.

· Authenticity in local product with truth in labeling and grading is mandatory.

· High standards of quality and freshness are required.

· Organic claims must be backed by recognised certification which must be displayed.

· Prices must not be excessive and should broadly reflect the local trader/supermarket rates, with premiums being offered for specialty items and second grade produce is to be labeled and discount priced accordingly.

· A stall holder is only permitted to sell produce/products that they themselves do not grow, make or produce, where those products do not constitute more than 10% (by volume) of the stall holder’s own produce/products offered for sale on any given market day.

· The market management committee shall have the right to determine how many stallholders are admitted to specific markets to sell a particular style/type/variety of produce or product having regard for the need to provide the largest possible cross section/variety of produce or products for sale at the market to enhance its success.

· It is the stallholder’s (vendor’s) responsibility to comply with all regulatory requirements, including (but not limited to), food handling, liquor licensing, fruit fly prevention and product/public risk insurance.

· The EFM Committee of management is charged with the responsibly of ensuring the integrity of the Charter.

OTHER ASPECTS

WHAT ECHUCA FARMERS MARKET MEMBERSHIP INVOLVES:

(a) participating as a farmer / producer / maker in the Echuca Farmers & Makers Market and/or other markets organized by EFM;

(b) understanding and promoting the aims and activities of the market which are;

a. to provide the community with a regular opportunity to purchase direct from local small businesses and producers

b. to raise awareness about food origins and healthy eating, including the ‘paddock to plate’ movement

c. to provide a market place for farmers, makers and producers to sell their goods

d. to attract tourists to the area

(c) strictly abiding by the Echuca Farmers Market Rules at all times

FREQUENCY:

Echuca Farmers Markets are held in the Echuca Aquatic reserve (2 Heygarth Street, Echuca) on the 1^st and 3^rd Saturday of each month. Markets may be held on other dates and locations periodically.

The markets run from 8.00am to 12.00pm. Bump in time from 6.45am.

MANAGEMENT:

The allocation of sites on any market day will be at the sole discretion of the Market Organisers / Manager who will also ensure that a broad representation of stall/product types are available to customers.

INSURANCE & CLAIMS FOR LOSS:

EMT does not accept any claim for loss (however sustained) should (a) the operation of the Market on any particular scheduled day be cancelled, commence later or finish earlier than the published time(s) or be transferred to another venue (b) any advertisement that EMT may insert in a local newspaper or other periodical either (i) fail to mention a particular farmer, maker or producer or products (ii) wrongly describe such produce/products.
